Brian Young can be referred to as a bushman in the true sense of the word growing up in the cattle station country of North Queensland. Where he learned the harsh ways of living in the bush from nature and the characters and people of the outback.
As a true outback teenager he enjoyed rodeo and in 1954 at the age of 18 years won the World Brahman Bull Riding Championship. However his rodeo career was cut short due to knee problems so he turned to his love of country music and in 1959 was invited to join the famous Rick and Thel Carey Touring show.
His first recording was with W & G who he was still with when he released his classic hit “Black Man Jacky Jacky ". After changing to EMI in the 60's he had another major hit with " Walk Away, Lets Forget". 1988 saw the release of " Big Fella Wudumbah" a big album for Brian which was followed by the "Tjilpi" album from which the song "Thistles on the Hillside' penned by Buddy Weston won the 1991 Golden Guitar Award for Best Heritage song of the year.
In 1977 Brian put together the Brian Young Show that has toured annually since to Queensland, The Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia. With most of the outback touring done by air for the first ten years the show created a record for the longest running air charter in the world.
In 1999 he was inducted into the Australian Country Music Roll of Renown and also won the TSA Songwriters Award for his significant Songwriting contributions.
In 2000 he received the Outback Trailblazer Award and the TSA Tex Morton Award.
2001 saw Brian receive an OBE for his contribution to the Music Industry.
The "Voice of the Outback" and "People and Places I've Known" Albums show why many country music fans consider Brian Young to be a true music legend.
Brian runs two reunion shows at the Tamworth Country Music Festival each year where any entertainer who has travelled with his touring show is entitled to perform. Many new faces and legends have travelled with Brian over the years from legends like Jimmy Little to new faces like Beccy Cole and Troy Cassar-Daley.
